We’ve come a long way over the years, becoming the one stop shop for IT solutions specialized in serving city and county governments in Georgia.
Working closely with city and county government clients, Capital Data Service has developed an all-inclusive IT support program called Open Umbrella. This program guarantees that city and county governments in Georgia will stay within their budget each year for IT support with no surprises.
It was May 1992 and a young salesman - Hastin Slaton - was just hired by Capital Data Service to be an Account Executive.
He’s tasked with the sole purpose of selling computer hardware to government organizations and other companies. Provided only a list of cold leads, a phone and a small desk in a closet transformed into an office, he was told to start dialing.
Hastin approached this massive task by relating it to fishing; and he loves to fish. “You never know when you will bring in the big one,” is what he always said.
After almost 4 years of tough work developing a client base, the original founder of the company, Dave Cash, approached Hastin requesting his assistance to help sell the company to a local competitor. Hastin agreed and went home that night pondering what had just hit him.
After thinking over all possibilities, Hastin decided that he would offer to purchase the company himself. At only 26, he had his car, a home, 2 dogs and a wife. Buying a multimillion dollar company was not exactly something he could afford.
But Hastin pitched and sold Mr. Cash on the idea, partnering up with Chip Reynolds, the Operations Manager at that time, to make it happen. The new team put everything on the line in April 1996; and they fostered a great business partnership together for 8 years.
In 2004, Chip Reynolds decided it was time to move on to other business ventures and sold his half of the company to Hastin. They remain very good friends to this day.
Hastin has always worked closely with city and county governments in Georgia providing hardware maintenance and upgrade services. He learned quickly that many of these government entities were using the same software vendors, leading Hastin on a path to develop relationships with these vendors.
Too often software and hardware companies point fingers at each other when there is an issue.
Hastin believes he can do better for his clients, actively working to prevent that from happening. With this approach, and a customer-centric focus, he has succeeded in providing a better IT experience for city and county governments.
